A memorial of Uladzimir Karatkevich was held in Warsaw

The evening memorial of the classic of Belarusian literature Uladzimir Karatkevich, as held at the “Witryna Domu Wschodniego”, gathered a considerable audience among the main young people.

The memorial was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the death of the writer. The main speaker was a well-known politician, Doctor of Art History Zianon Paznyak.

“It was a very interesting conversation, the memories of Zianon Paznyak. I would also like to say that Uladzimir Karatkevich is a personal story for me. He was born in Orsha and his father was very friendly with my great-grandfather,” said Ihar Stankevich, founder of the Belarusian Institute of Public History.

Those present at the memorial are grateful to Uladzimir Karatkevich for his works, which awakened Belarusianism in them, says Siarhey Gerasimovich, head of the Belarusian Language Society in Warsaw.

“Karatkevich is one of our pillars. That is, I do not know who else could have the same influence on the formation of a romantic, historical image of Belarus,” he said.

According to Stankevich, the memorial of Uladzimir Karatkevich was a success. Perhaps not everyone present liked it, but the memories of our brilliant classic revived a grateful memory.
