Belarusian literature will face new challenges, a philanthropist considers

Belarusian literature is going to face new challenges, says Pavel Beragovich, patron of three Belarusian literary prizes – the Carlos Sherman Prize, the Ciotka Prize, and the Debut Prize for beginners.

The main Belarusian literary process is consistently moving abroad, where a number of publishing houses have already been established, book festivals are taking place, and even bookstores exist. But the main thing is that independent literary awards have begun to serve mainly authors who are published abroad.

“Now there’s just this reformatting, some kind of regrouping going on. And I am very optimistic about the future. I think this process will resume in the near future. He will follow some other rules. Maybe there will be some other patterns as a result. But he will be, and I will support him as much as I can,” says Pavel Beragovich.

Pavel Beragovich, an entrepreneur with Belarusian roots, currently lives in Estonia. He has been a sponsor of a number of cultural projects in Belarus for more than 20 years.
