Belarusian theater in exile continues its activities

More than 65 premiere screenings were staged by Belarusian actors who were forced to leave for Poland after the 2020 elections.

Poland is the most favorable for Belarusian theater creators, many of whom have found their second home here, theater critic Iryna Lappo notes.

“Belarusian theater has immigrated in significant numbers and is developing in a foreign country, developing in emigration. Poland is the most hospitable shelter for the Belarusian theater thanks to the support of the Polish state. Several scholarships and residencies have been launched. Indeed, the solidarity of Polish theaters with their colleagues is extraordinary,” she said at the presentation of the book in Bialystok ‘Essays on the newest Belarusian theater (2010-2020)”.

There are more than 10 Belarusian theaters and theater initiatives operating in Poland. The actors actively participate in international festivals both in Poland and in other European countries.
