In Michalowo, they are trying to “Preserve the fleeting”

The second meeting within the framework of the project ”Preserve the fleeting”, organized by the Center of Belarusian Culture in Bialystok and led by researcher Aneta Primaka-Oniszk, took place in the Gmina’s library in Michalowo.

The goal of the “Preserve the fleeting” project is to capture the memories of older people, record the stories they have experienced or heard and protect them from oblivion. Special attention is paid to the Belarusian component of such memories.

“This is the first project that we are carrying out with the Belarusian society as a library, but not the first one that was carried out in the gmina Michalowo. We hope for further cooperation, and we also hope that some publications will come out of this,” said Julita Nieploch-Sitnicka, an employee of the Gmina’s library in Michalowo.

According to the presenter and researcher of oral history, Aneta Primaka-Oniszk, memory is fleeting, it recedes very quickly. “We describe the story, but very often it is a story from the Polish experience, and the experience of minorities departs because it is not recorded,” she says.
