Jerzy Giedroyc Award Ceremony in Gdansk 

The Jerzy Giedroyc Award ceremony is taking place in Gdansk. The largest independent literary award in Belarus has been awarded since 2012.

The six strongest participants and participants of the current season of the Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award include:

The book “On the Wall in Silichy” by Maria Vaytsieshonak, Pfleumbaum publishing house, 2023.
The book ” Volunteers. Omen” by Valery Gapeev, Yanushkevich Publishing House, 2023.
The book “Time of Weeds” by Anna Yankuta, Yanushkevich publishing house, 2023.

This year, the event was opened by Belarusian singer and actress Daria Novik, accompanied by the Anima Eterna string orchestra with songs based on poems by Belarusian political prisoners.

The award is named after Jerzy Giedroyc, an outstanding cultural figure and editor of the Polish magazine Kultura, who supported the idea of cooperation between the peoples of Central and Eastern Europe.

Among the laureates of previous seasons are Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, Ihar Babkou, Eva Vezhnavets. Last year, the main award was given to Hanna Kondratiuk, a writer from Podlasie, a journalist of the weekly Belarusians in Poland “Niwa” with the book “In the walls of the old forest. Stories of people from Bialowieza Forest”.
