In the Podlaskie Museum of Folk Culture, within the framework of the 26th “Summer Academy of Knowledge about the Tatars”, a scientific conference was opened, which brought together scientists from Poland, Belarus, Lithuania and Russia. The topic of the meeting:”Rod-family-community as an element of the transfer of the cultural heritage of the Tatars.”

“We want it to be clear what role family and kin play. We know that the Tatars who came here from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania are from ancient families. Firstly, there were ancient clans. At first there were large groups, then they dispersed. However, this tradition of functioning within a certain Tatar ancestry is still important to them. Showing the role of the family in the transmission of cultural heritage. Because for the Tatars it is very important how this happens, who these families were -Talkovsky, Sulkevichi. It was not a shame to be a Tatar, it was an honor,” says the organizer, commissioner of the Podlaskie Voivode for National and ethnic Minorities Artur Konopacki.
According to Artur Konopacki, the results of the conference can be useful for the Belarusian minority of Podlasie, which has similar identity problems. A special collection of reports will be published at the end of the conference. The main organizer of the event was the Union of Tatars of the Republic of Poland.
