The Bielsky ceremonial towel is recognized as a cultural value

A meeting of fans of Podlaskie folk culture was held at the Dubicze Cerkiewne Cultural Center in Podlasie on the occasion of the inclusion of the Bielsky ceremonial towel in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Adding the Bielsky Ceremonial towel to the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage is an excellent way to protect and promote it as a living heritage, says the curator of the Podlaskie Museum in Bialystok, ethnographer Alina Debowska-Jankiewicz.

“A towel is important in every ceremony, even a family one, this towel performed an important function. Now interest in folk art is returning. I think that the environment has matured to look at these things differently. Not like something old. It is important to pass this knowledge from generation to generation, it needs to be restored,” she says.

The inclusion of the Bielsky Ceremonial towel in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Poland provides for the protection and popularization of the Bielsky ceremonial towel, its role and significance in the folk rituals of Belarusians of Podlasie.
