The “Honey Award” from a Belarusian poet appeared in Bialystok

In 2001, the poet-beekeeper Mikola Papeka, who lived in Pruzhanshchyna, in the Brest region of Belarus, established the “Honey Award”. The award winner received a pood of honey. Now it will be awarded in Bialystok.

Since 2020, the prize has not been awarded, since Mikola Papeka was convicted in the political Brest “round dance case”. Having fully served his sentence, Mikola left for Poland last year and settled in Bialystok. This year he bought an apiary, returned to beekeeping and restored his “Honey Award”.

“I didn’t get too much honey, I must say, but I got honey, so in principle you can fork out, you can be generous. My bonus is not too serious, sometimes I can decide for myself who to give the prize to. Perhaps it will be so. There should be some kind of meeting, a celebration. But I need to be given a badge corresponding to this award,” says Mikola Papeka.

The “Honey Award” was established as a regional award for the Brest region. But over time, laureates began to appear outside of this region. Obviously, this time the winner will not be associated with the Brest region either.
