The international conference of the Belarusian language was held in Warsaw

On March 25-26 the Department of Belarusian Studies of the Faculty of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw held an international scientific conference “The language, literature and culture of Belarus in Poland and the world. On the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vasil Bykau.”

“It is very symbolic that the conference started on March 25, the day of the declaration of independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic. It continues on March 26 and is timed to coincide with the centenary of the birth of Vasil Bykau. I was lucky enough to know Vasil Bykov personally, back in the late 90s, so for me he is not only a legendary figure of Belarusian literature, culture, and the national movement, but also a real one. The topic of the conference was primarily the Belarusian language, the main marker of the Belarusian national identity,” says writer and researcher Viktar Korbut.

During the conference, the main problems of Belarusian language research and the peculiarities of Belarusian-language translation were discussed. It is planned that the International Scientific Conference of the Belarusian language will be held at the University of Warsaw next year.
