The scientific conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian writer Vasil Bykfu is taking place at the University of Warsaw. The program includes presentations by 15 speakers from different cities and countries, as well as a discussion.
Alena Strashkevich, a doctoral student at the Department of Belarusian Studies, worked on one of the topics – “Thinking about the past and present: the journalism of Vasil Bykau during the Perestroika (1986-1991)”.
“Bykau writes there that it feels like our land, our territory is not created for something to change on it. These are the constant parallels that you draw one way or another, because this is still a time of hope – Perestroika. And it is time for democratic changes, hopes for these changes. And if Bykau is inspired at first, in principle, about this, somewhere cautiously, then it is already the 91st year that he has completely different thoughts. And you think that so many years have passed, but in principle nothing changes,” she said.
The speakers of the conference are from Poland, Montenegro, Canada, Germany and other countries.
