
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Belarusian cinema, celebrated on December 17, the anniversary of the creation of the Belgoskino film studio, the Belarusian Independent Film Academy presented a list of the 50 best films shot in Belarus and/or by Belarusians.
The list was compiled based on a survey of 49 experts: directors, film critics, curators and others.
The first place in the rating was taken by the anti-war drama “Come and See”, shot in 1985 by Elem Klimov based on the script by Ales Adamovich.
In second place is Andrey Kudinenko’s film “Mysterium Occupation” in 2004, which shows the guerrilla movement of the time of the Second World War.
Completing the top three best films is the Belarusian horror film “The Wild Hunt of King Stakh”, an adaptation of the story by Uladzimir Karatkevich, filmed in 1980.
In total, experts mentioned 174 Belarusian films during the survey, the list of 50 included those that were called most often.
