The exhibition is being curtailed at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature “Life through outlines and lines“ on the 100th anniversary of the outstanding writer Vasil Bykau, writes ”Nasha Niva”.
The exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the people’s writer of Belarus was supposed to be shown until May 5, but it was decided to close on February 5. She lasted only 10 days – from January 25th. The journalists learned about this from a reader who called the museum to find out the opening hours of the exhibition. “We thought it would take longer, but it turned out that way,” the museum staff said without further explanation.

In the exhibition, Vasil Bykau is shown not only as a writer, but also as an artist. The exhibition features more than 70 graphic and pictorial works by Bykau: sketches of landscapes, houses, farmsteads from childhood, as well as memories of the war, self-mocking sketches, the construction of a cottage in Zhdanovichy.
Vasil Bykau was born on June 19, 1924. After the 8th grade of the Kublitski secondary school, the future writer entered the Viciebsk Art College. However, in the autumn of 1940, due to lack of money and the cancellation of state scholarships, he left his studies.
After the war and demobilization in 1947, Bykau came to Minsk, where he again planned to enter an art school. But in the end he ended up in Grodna, where he worked for some time in art workshops.
Vasil Bykau said about the Lukashenka regime that “the country is ruled by the junta.” To this day, Bykau is perceived by the Lukashists as an alien. Belarusians consider Bykov to be the conscience of the nation. Thousands of compatriots came to his funeral in 2003.
