A list of safe countries for Belarusian political migrants has been posted on the Internet, which was compiled by the People’s Embassies of Belarus and the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
The compilers of the list noted that the data they collected is intended “mainly for Belarusians abroad who, during the 2020 elections and after them, took part in protest actions in Belarus or abroad; donated; commented, liked, showed their anti-regime and anti-war position on social networks; conducted both publicly and and no, other active activities aimed at democratic changes in Belarus.”
At the same time, the drafters added that all the information they collected is purely for informational purposes based on an analysis of open and accessible information about agreements concluded between Belarus and Russia and other countries, the likelihood of arrest of Belarusian citizens and further extradition, as well as current relations between the governments of other countries and regimes in Belarus and Russia.
In Europe, most countries are designated as safe for Belarusian migrants. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina are among the dangerous ones. At the same time, the list does not give 100% guarantees, the creators write.
The compilers of the list warn that “everything is changing – the country that was safe yesterday may become dangerous tomorrow. Before each trip, we advise you to look for information about this country in independent media: how democratic it is and how human rights are respected there, whether there have been cases of arrests of Belarusians, deportations and extraditations.”
