Poland announced the termination of the activities of a group of cyber saboteurs, led by Belarusian and Russian special services, who tried, in particular, to paralyze economic life in the country.
According to Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski, the Belarusian and Russian services had a specific goal – to extort information, conduct individual and institutional blackmail and de facto conduct cyber warfare.
According to Gawkowski, the goal of the group of saboteurs, led by the Belarusian and Polish special services, “was to cause paralysis in the political, military and economic spheres” of Poland.
According to the minister, it all started with the Polish anti-doping agency. “It was an element of a broader operational game of the services, whose task was to develop on its basis vectors of penetration into other Polish institutions. Both at the level of local authorities and at the level of state-owned companies related to the security sector,” Gawkowski explained”
According to him, the goal set by the attackers – extortion of data and subsequent blackmail — has been stopped.
In turn, Interior Minister and Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak assured that the government “draws conclusions from all threats and similar situations.”
