A new division has been created in Poland to guard the Polish-Belarusian border

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the 16th mechanized brigade, which is currently being completed, will be sent to guard the Polish-Belarusian border.

“From August 1, the 16th division will be responsible for the protection of the Polish-Belarusian border in the framework of Operation Safe Podlasie. She will take over the leadership of the operation,” the website of the Polish Ministry of Defense reports the words of Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who spoke during a meeting with soldiers of the newly created brigade.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the formation of the 16th motorized brigade as part of the 16th mechanized division began in the spring of 2024, and in 11 months more than 600 military personnel joined its ranks. The brigade is stationed in Zaluski near Nidzice in northeastern Poland.

Once fully formed, the 16th motorized brigade will become the largest military unit in the region.
