A poem by a Belarusian classic has been recognized as extremist in Belarus

By the decision of the court of the Barysausky district of the Minsk region, the video clip and the lyrics of the song “Not to be Cattle” by the group “Lapis Trubetskoy” were recognized as extremist products.

The lyrics of the song are completely compiled from the lines of Yanka Kupala’s poem “Who are you?”, written by the future classic during the national awakening, when Belarusians stood at the crossroads of history and sought an answer to who they are and what their place in this world is.

For the first time, the poem was published in No.3 of the newspaper Nasha Niva in 1908, of which Kupala would become editor in the autumn of the same year at the invitation of brothers Ivan and Anton Lutskevich.

Thus, along with the song “Lapis”, Kupala’s work is also prohibited.
