Human rights activists learned that a few months ago, Dzmitry Shletgauer was convicted in the Brest Regional Court under the articles “assistance to extremist activities” and “espionage”.
Dzmitry’s sentence is unknown, but the sanction of the last article provides for seven to 15 years in prison.
The trial in the Shletgauer case was held behind closed doors, it was not indicated on the website of the Supreme Court. Human rights defenders do not know anything about the circumstances of the case.
Since 2020, three people have been convicted of “espionage” in political cases — Polish citizen Tomasz Bereza and Ukrainians Andrei Shmai and Natalia Zakharenko, who was later released on exchange.
On August 30, the Supreme Court is scheduled to consider the appeal in the Shletgauer case in closed mode.
