Activists of the Belarusian diaspora in Bialystok held a traditional solidarity rally with political prisoners who are forced to celebrate their birthdays behind bars this month.
“We don’t forget about them, we will remember them. And no matter how they say that they have been forgotten and not remembered, this is not true. We remember them all, and we take to the streets to support them. I understand that they won’t see it, but their parents and someone they know will. And even if they receive a postcard somewhere, they will be told that yes, we saw that you are remembered, then it will be uplifting for them. We must not forget about them. I should be sitting right now, too, but I ran away from that regime. I understand that I would be the same as them,” says one of the organizers of the action, Ivan Kasperovich.
Today, there are officially 1,257 political prisoners in Belarus alone. 74 of them are forced to celebrate their birthdays behind bars.
