On July 28, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in Warsaw, despite the hurricane wind, held an action dedicated to the Independence Day of Belarus on July 27.
In addition to the main topic, there was a lot of talk about activist Dzmitry Harelka, who died on July 25. We have not forgotten another sad date – the 110th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War.
“On July 27, 1990, the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus was adopted. A year later, in August 1991, this declaration was declared a State law. Our country has declared its independence. We thought that today we would only talk about Independence Day, but one of our active participants in the action, Dzmitry Harelka, died, he was 42 years old. According to the police, he died at his workplace,” said Vasil Pleshkunouv, the organizer of the action, a member of the Belarusian Association of Political Prisoners “to freedom” and a representative of the Belarusian organization “Belarusians of Warsaw”.
All the speakers expressed confidence that Independence Day on July 27 will be returned as a holiday. Belarusians who died during the years of emigration were immortalized with a minute of silence.
