
On September 19, in Strasbourg, the European Parliament approved a resolution “On the plight of political prisoners in Belarus.” The resolution was adopted by a majority of votes: 549 parliamentarians supported the document, 21 voted against, 37 abstained.
The draft resolution of the European Parliament (the final text has not yet been published) contains 9 points. Among other things, it expresses concern about the situation of political prisoners in Belarus, calls on “the European Union and its friends to work to bring to justice the crimes of the Lukashenka regime and actively apply the principle of universal jurisdiction.”
