Chairman of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andżelika Borys met with the Podlaskie voivode and discussed the problems of the Polish community beyond the eastern border
Andżelika Borys met with Podlaskie voivode Jacek Brzozowski. Voivode Jacek Brzezowski talked about the Polish school in Belarus, the activities of Polish educational sites and the daily problems of the Polish community beyond the eastern border with Andżelika Borys and Vice-Chairman Marek Zaniewski today, April 15, in Bialystok.
According to Andżelika Borys, the Union of Poles today consists of about 60 sites for learning the Polish language, as well as an increasing number of volunteers who take care of Polish places of memory.
The voivode assured the chairman of the support for the company’s activities. This was reported by the press service of the Podlaskie voivode.
Andżelika Borys was detained in Belarus in 2021 in the “Сase of the Poles”. At that time, five people were behind bars, including an activist of the Polish minority, journalist Andrzej Poczobut. Soon, the other three defendants – Anna Paniszewa, Irena Bernacka and Maria Tiszkowska were released and sent to Poland. Poczobut and Boris refused to be released in exchange for deportation from Belarus.
In March 2022, Borys was transferred from the pre-trial detention center in Zhodzina under house arrest. On April 4, 2023, it became known about the release of Andżelika Borys from house arrest. The case against her was later closed.
Journalist Andrzej Poczobut, who received a sentence of eight years in a penal colony, continues to be behind bars.
