Hearings on the relocation of Ukrainian children to Belarus are being held in the US Congress

On December 5, the US Congress is holding hearings on Belarus’ complicity in the forced displacement and re-education of Ukrainian children, as well as issues of military cooperation between Belarus and Russia, their evasion of sanctions.

The broadcast of the meeting can be viewed at the link.

“Belarus is now actually controlled by Putin. Lukashenka sold her independence to protect his interests. It is very important that we take appropriate measures and concerns: this means the same attitude towards Belarus and Russia on the issue of sanctions. And we must convince that Russia cannot use Belarus as a loophole to circumvent sanctions,” it was said at the beginning of the meeting.

At the hearings, Matvey Kupreychyk, a representative of the association “BelPol” of former security forces, Gabrielius Landsbergis, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, and Ekaterina Roshevskaya, a legal expert at the regional center for Human Rights, act as a witness on the stated topics.

According to various estimates, since the beginning of the war, at least 2.5 thousand Ukrainian children have been taken to Belarus from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine (according to the “People’s Anti-Crisis Management” – at least 3.5 thousand).
