Henryk Litwin: Belarus is of key importance for Poland’s security

The Belarusian theme in Poland: the issue of security against the background of Ukraine and political prospects. In Warsaw, this was discussed at the second Belarusian-Polish forum named after Roman Skirmunt, where experts from Belarus and Polish working with Belarusian topics gathered.

Among the speakers is Henryk Litwin, Chairman of the Board of the International Solidarity Fund. Vlad Hryneuski talked with him about the place of Belarus in modern Polish politics and even about the language.

“This is very important and certainly makes a lot of sense. Such events keep Polish elites in the Belarusian theme, and this is very necessary. We need to remind you of the importance of this topic. Poland has a number of very serious problems that need to be solved as always and now. There is a very acute conflict, a war in Ukraine””

“This whole issue attracts the attention of both elites and society to a very large extent, but this does not change the fact that Belarus is a key and extremely important place for Poland and Poland’s long-term security. Who knows, maybe it’s more important now than even Ukraine. If we look at the geopolitical and international conditions, then in the long term this is indeed an extremely important problem for Poland.”

“And therefore, every such reminder of the existing problems, the importance of the Belarusian issue for Poland and for the entire European region is simply very important, therefore, the work carried out here to prepare for this conference is of great importance. All the words spoken here must be remembered and treated as important assessments from which conclusions must be drawn.”

Henryk Litwin worked as ambassador to Belarus from 2007 to 2010, and later in Ukraine.
