Human rights activists have published an overview of the human rights situation in Belarus in 2024. It follows from it that at the end of last year, the Viasna Human rights Center was aware of 6,550 people sentenced to various types of punishment on politically motivated charges, 1,380 of them were women.
Last year, at least 8,895 people faced various types of repression related to criminal or administrative prosecution (arrests, interrogations, searches). More than 10 political prisoners are being held incommunicado. Four political prisoners died in penal colonies and pre-trial detention centers.
The Belarusian authorities continue to commit torture and use prohibited treatment against dissidents and representatives of the opposition.
