Marshal of the Polish Senate Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska called the presidential election campaign in Belarus “pseudo-elections” at a briefing following a meeting with democratic leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
“We have committed ourselves that there will be a very strong signal and voice from the Polish Senate that we will not recognize these elections,” the politician said. “We cannot talk about free elections when more than 1,300 people are in prison, convicted for their political views and for wanting democracy.”“
The politician expressed the hope that a similar assessment of the campaign would be heard in the Polish Sejm, as well as from other European parliaments.
