Polish business continues to lobby for new restrictions on fertilizers from Belarus and Russia.
According to Eurostat, in January-August, 862 thousand tons of nitrogen fertilizers were imported from Russia to Poland, which is 26% of the pan-European imports. The increase in supplies is associated with a “hole” in sanctions. At the same time, the competitiveness of Polish and European producers is declining due to higher prices for the main raw material for the production of nitrogen fertilizers – natural gas.
Earlier it was reported about the proposal to introduce an import customs duty on fertilizers from Belarus and Russia in the amount of 30%. Polish producers also propose to expand sanctions and introduce control mechanisms for fertilizers entering the country’s market.
Let us recall that the Belarusian enterprises Belaruskali and Grodna Azot, which produce fertilizers, are under EU sanctions.
