The rector of the church in Valozhyn, Henryk Akalatovich, pleaded not guilty, katolik.life reports.
The priest’s case has been considered behind closed doors in the Minsk Regional Court since November 25. The verdict was passed by Judge Uladzimir Areshka.
The Catholic priest is 64 years old. He comes from the village of Novaya Mysh, Baranavichy district. Recently, Henryk served at the Catholic Church of St. Joseph in Valozhyn. He was detained on November 17, 2023.
Akalatovich had previously suffered a heart attack and had cancer, so shortly before his arrest, he underwent gastric surgery. The priest needs special care and medical attention. But he is being held in a KGB pre-trial detention center, and his health status is unknown.
