In February, Belarusian human rights activists recognized 39 more people as political prisoners, and also demanded rehabilitation for 16 former prisoners, who became known after their release. According to human rights activists, at least 3,776 people have been granted political prisoner status since 2020.
In addition, in February alone, the fewest 656 cases of politically motivated repression were recorded, including detentions and searches. The judicial authorities continue to operate in a pressure mode: during the month, they issued at least 352 decisions on administrative cases and convicted 89 people on politically motivated charges.
There is also an increase in absentee trials. Not only activists and media personalities fall under repression, but also ordinary Belarusians. The persecution of those who helped Ukrainian volunteers or provided information about Russian military equipment is also highlighted.
