The leader of the democratic opposition Sviatlana Cikhanouskaya and the deputy head of the Joint Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka, during meetings with European politicians, urged them not to recognize the results of the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus next year.
According to Sviatlana Cikhanouskaya’s chief adviser Franak Vyachorka, the democratic leader held a meeting in Vilnius with Lithuanian MEPs Andrus Kubilius and Rasa Jukneviciene, at which the strategy of the Democratic Party before the 2025 elections was also discussed.
Cikhanouskaya “reminded Lithuanian members of the Parliament that the elections will be neither free nor democratic and cannot be recognized by the international community.”
The importance of “keeping the Belarusian issue on the EU agenda and cooperation between democratic forces and the European Parliament” was also discussed.
There are completely no conditions in Belarus for holding presidential elections in 2025 – this position was brought by the Deputy head of the Joint Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, the head of the NAU Pavel Latushka during meetings with the Permanent Representative of Germany to the OSCE, Ambassador Suzanne Schutz.
Latushka recalled the numerous facts of repression against those who signed for the registration of a presidential candidate, “the liquidation of all 11 opposition political parties, independent media and over 1.7 thousand NGO”.
The Joint Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, in cooperation with the office of Sviatlana Cikhanouskaya, decided to create an authorized working group to develop a common position on the so-called elections. This proposal has been submitted to the Coordinating Council of the Democratic Forces of Belarus.
The next so-called presidential elections in Belarus should be held no later than July 20, 2025.
