Poland has extended the operation of the buffer zone on the border with Belarus for another 90 days since September 11.
As noted on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland, the corresponding order was signed by the head of the department Tomasz Siemoniak.
“After almost 90 days of the buffer zone on the Polish-Belarusian border, the number of illegal border crossing attempts decreased by 64%, which confirms the validity and effectiveness of the zone,” the official statement says.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland reported that since the introduction of the buffer zone from June 13 to September 9, border guards recorded 6,130 attempts to illegally cross the border against 17,030 cases in the same period last year.
