The JTC draws international attention to the extradition of ex-soldier of Kalinouski Regiment to Belarus

The Joint Transitional Cabinet (JTC) wants to draw the attention of international partners to the situation with Vasil Verameychyk, a former soldier of the Kalinovski Regiment, who was unable to legalize in Europe and was extradited to Belarus by the Vietnamese authorities.

This was discussed during the meeting, which was devoted to a number of operational and planning issues. Information related to this situation was heard and possible actions were discussed to draw the attention of international partners both to this situation and to the problems of legalizing Belarusians and the need to simplify bureaucratic procedures.

On November 20, it became known about the detention and extradition from Vietnam of a former soldier of the Kalinouski Regiment, Vasil Verameychyk. Before that, Lithuania recognized him as a threat to national security and banned him from entering the EU. The issue of holding Lukashenka accountable for crimes against the Belarusian people was also raised. The information from experts of the People’s Anti-Crisis Management, who presented a plan to attract the support of other countries that can join Lithuania’s appeal to the office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as well as actions to transfer additional evidence of crimes against humanity committed by the regime, was considered.

Pavel Latushka, Deputy head of the JTC, representative for transit authorities, noted that the promotion of the initiative on the accession of partner countries to the Lithuanian government’s appeal to the office of the Prosecutor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Belarusian situation should become one of the main priorities of the work of the three main institutions of democratic forces in their contacts with international partners.
