The amendments to the Act on Democracy in Belarus will soon be considered by the House of Representatives of the US Congress.
The Act was amended due to the regime’s participation in the war against Ukraine, as well as trafficking in Ukrainian children. The new version of the act added a call for the immediate release of all political prisoners.
The document also enshrines the intention not to recognize any inclusion of Belarus in the so-called “Union State” under the control of Russia.
As Valery Kavaleuski, representative of the Joint Transitional Cabinet for Foreign Affairs, noted, the updated version of the law proves “how closely American lawmakers are monitoring the situation in Belarus and offering practical steps to the US government.” According to him, such a bill has also been submitted to the Senate. It is expected that the Congress may adopt the Act on Democracy in Belarus by the end of the year.
