The passport of ex-judge Szmydt, who fled to Belarus, was canceled in Poland

The Masovian Voivode, based on a request from the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office, canceled the passport of former judge Tomasz Szmydt, who defected to Belarus more than five months ago.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, this step “does not bring Schmyt’s detention any closer, but significantly limits his ability to travel.”

Polish media believe that if the defector does not receive a passport, for example, from the Belarusian authorities, then in Belarus he will be trapped, will be able to travel only to Russia, which cooperates with by the Lukashenka regime.

The investigation into the case of possible cooperation between Szmydt and the Belarusian special services continues.

In May, Tomasz Szmydt fled Poland to Belarus, where he asked the Lukashenka regime for political asylum. The reason for this was, according to him, “persecution and threats for independent political activity.”
