Following statements by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on changes in migration policy, the Council of Ministers adopted the politician’s proposals.
The document is officially called “Obtaining control. Ensuring security. Poland’s Comprehensive and Responsible Migration Strategy for 2025-2030”. The strategy was proposed by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, writes the website of the Polish government.
The strategy officially highlights Poland’s efforts to end the migration problems that have regularly arisen in recent years, in particular on the eastern border with Belarus.
The government noted that currently over 2.5 million foreigners have long-term residence permits in Poland, while the state has not had a long-term migration strategy since 2016.
State security will be a priority in migration issues. Migration should be regulated in detail and kept under control, taking into account the purpose of arrival, the scale of the influx and the countries of origin of foreigners.
Among other things, the strategy contains a directed proposal to change the procedures for granting international protection so that they are not used in hybrid actions and at the same time take into account the humanitarian dimension of the situation on the Polish borders;
The document also indicates the need to change the approach to the right to asylum at the EU and international levels and adapt it to the current migration situation, taking into account security issues;
If there is a threat of destabilization of the country due to the influx of immigrants, it should be possible to temporarily and geographically suspend the right to accept asylum applications. Relevant laws should take into account the mechanism of parliamentary control, vulnerable groups and the experience of other countries.
