The Polish Senate recognized the Coordinating Council

On January 22, the Polish Senate unanimously adopted a resolution on unfair elections in Belarus. The document highlights the support of the Coordinating Council as a parliament in exile and calls for the release of political prisoners.

“Soon we will have the opportunity to gather – and I am already talking about this openly – in the building of the Polish Senate, which adopted a resolution today. What is happening in Belarus cannot be called elections. Lukashenka is persecuting people, there is a wave of repression, and all opposition candidates who could have participated in the elections are behind bars today and do not have this opportunity, or in exile. There is a separate paragraph in this resolution that says that the Polish Senate will continue its work and cooperation with the Coordinating Council as the parliament in exile,” says Speaker of the Coordinating Council Anzhelika Melnikava.

Anzhelika Melnikava and Pavel Latushka, Deputy head of the Joint Transitional Cabinet and leader of the largest faction of the Coordinating Council, attended the Senate meeting. Senate Marshal Malgorzata Kidawa-Błonska announced plans to sign a cooperation agreement with the Coordinating Council, emphasizing its role as a legitimate representative body of the Belarusian democratic society.
