The so-called “elections ” in Belarus are held in an atmosphere of silence

The alleged presidential elections in Belarus are taking place in an atmosphere of silence. People are afraid that they are already far from democracy.

Moreover, there is no alternative and no competition, none of the other candidates explains why it is worth voting for them and not for Aliaksandr Lukashenka,” Aliaksandr Shlyk, an election expert and former head of the OSCE/ODIHR election department, is convinced.

“If our people could ask questions to the so-called candidates, would the best question be: why vote for you and not for Lukashenka? And then we would have understood very well that these so-called candidates do not have an answer to this question. They are fighting over who loves Lukashenka more and who will support him more during this so-called election campaign,” he says.

The so-called election of the Belarusian president is scheduled for next Sunday, January 26. By the time of Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s re-election, there are less than two weeks left.
