A monthly solidarity rally with journalist and activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Poczobut was held at the monument to Priest Jerzy Popieluszko in Bialystok. Traditionally, among other things, all political prisoners in Belarus were remembered during the action.
“The situation with Andrzej, unfortunately, remains the same – consistently bad. It is located in Novopolotsk, in a chamber-type room. We don’t have a lot of information about him, we only know that he is not sitting in a punishment cell now, because of such a positive thing. And so there is a complete information blockade,” said Vice-Chairman of the Union Marek Zanewski.
“Every month we go to this place to express our solidarity with those Belarusians who are behind bars today. Minutes add up to hours, hours to days, days to weeks, months and years of imprisonment. Every day that people serve behind bars leaves its mark on their health and their psychological state,” said one of the participants of the action.
According to Anna Ketlinska, chairman of the Podlaskie department of the Wspolnota Polska Society, more than 200 former political prisoners from Belarus have arrived in Bialystok this year alone, who have been released from arrest and are now demanding help in settling down.
