Dictatorial regimes should be “as far removed as possible” from artificial intelligence tools and social media platforms they use for repression and propaganda, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said on February 10 in Paris during the AI and Democracy discussion.
Her chief adviser, Franak Viachorka, told Pozirk that the discussion was a side event of the AI Action Summit forum, which opened yesterday and is being chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Ban the content of the mode on your platforms. We must make sure that these platforms are not used by the regime’s propaganda, for example, to distribute videos of political prisoners who are forced to record false confessions under torture,” Tsikhanouskaya urged the summit participants.
Tsikhanouskaya also asked developers of artificial intelligence tools and social media platforms to support the Belarusian language. She called it a “secret weapon” at a time when Russia is trying to Russify Belarus.
On January 31, at the Digital Almaty IT forum in Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Raman Halouchanka said that the authorities in Belarus use artificial intelligence as an assistant in decision-making.
