During the Munich Security Conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a number of meetings with US congressmen. In particular, she met with Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Congressman Joe Wilson, and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, Senator Roger Vicker, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee. During the talks, support for independent Belarusian media and civil society was discussed. Tsikhanouskaya suggested making an exception for Belarusian programs and restoring financial assistance. In addition, issues of political prisoners and possible further steps for their release were raised, as well as the prospects for appointing a special envoy for Belarus.
Tsikhanouskaya thanked for the continued support and arranged for the hearing to be held.
