Vilnius and Warsaw want to build a road through Augustow for military mobility

Lithuania and Poland have agreed to apply to the European Commission with a joint application for financing the construction of an alternative road from Augustow (Poland) to Vilnius (Lithuania) to increase military mobility.

As noted on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, the heads of two sectoral departments of Poland and Lithuania, Dariusz Klimczak and Eugenijus Sabutis, agreed on this decision.

According to Lithuanian Minister Eugenijus Sabutis, the current geopolitical situation dictates the need to develop additional transport corridors and infrastructure connections between Lithuania and Poland. One of these options is the construction of the Augustow – Lazdijai – Alytus – Vilnius road.

After the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, supported by the leadership of Belarus, Lithuania and Poland intensified cooperation in the field of defense and security.
