Balloons from Belarus with contraband arrived in Poland

On the morning of November 8, two weather balloons of Belarusian smugglers were found in Podlaskie voivodeship. Cigarette bags were attached to them, RMF24 reports.

One of the residents of Kolno called and reported that a balloon with a load attached to it was hanging on a viaduct near the settlement of Stawiski. The man took off the “package” and brought it to the police station. It contained cigarettes without Polish excise stamps.

Another ”parcel” attached to a weather balloon was found in a field near the village of Szacilowka, Sokolski district.

This is not the first time that smugglers’ weather balloons have been found in areas adjacent to the border with Belarus.

In September, smugglers used weather balloons especially actively to transport cigarettes from Belarus to Lithuania. In recent weeks, they have increasingly used similar tactics on the border with Poland. The use of weather balloons depends on weather conditions, they are not controlled and fly downwind.
