
The Polish National Prosecutor’s Office has charged a Belarusian citizen Sciapan K. with setting fire to a multi-storey construction store in Warsaw in April 2024.
The fire in the OBI shopping center on Radzyminska Street occurred on April 14 last year, part of the store burned down, the damage is estimated at more than 3.5 million zlotys.
According to the prosecution, on April 13, the Belarusian citizen spilled flammable liquid in a store and left devices for remote arson. On the night of April 14th, they went off and a fire started. Also Sciapan K. He filmed the fire on his phone, and later some of these materials “were published on Russian propaganda websites.”
“In addition, it has been established that the suspect committed the specified arson, acting in the interests of foreign intelligence, namely the intelligence service of the Russian Federation, and on the instructions of the Russian special services,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The man was charged with committing sabotage in the interests of foreign intelligence and a terrorist crime. These articles provide for punishment up to life imprisonment.
The court decided to keep Sciapan K. under arrest for another three months. The man is also involved in the investigation of an organized criminal group engaged in recruiting and organizing sabotage activities in the interests of foreign intelligence.
