Politician Yauhen Dudkin and journalist Dzmitry Lupach expressed their condolences to the parents of the deceased during the funeral of Polish border guard Mateusz Sitek in Nowy Lubiel.
“There are a lot of people, only the military, the president. Many Poles came, ordinary people who brought flowers and burned candles. Dzmitry Lupach and I stood in a long queue. There was an opportunity to express condolences to the family. The soldier’s mother was standing there. I managed to say a few words that we, Belarusians, prayed for her son, that we see in this man a hero who defended his country,” Yauhen Dudkin said.
According to Yauhen Dudkin, it was hard and shameful for them to stand in front of the parents of the man whose life was cut short by a bandit from the Belarusian side. However, they had to do this, since Mateusz was protecting not only his own people, but also those Belarusians who had received asylum in Poland.
