Belarusians celebrated Ancestral Memorial Day “Dziady” in Warsaw and Bialystok

On November 2, a march of Belarusians was held in Warsaw, dedicated to the Ancestral Memorial Day. On the same day, a tour of Belarusian graves took place at the city Orthodox cemetery in Bialystok.

The march in Warsaw began at 15:00 on Jozef Pilsudski Square. About 100 people came to the traditional holiday of Belarusians – commemoration of the ancestors. Representatives of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Cabinet were present: Alina Koushyk and Pavel Latushka. Zianon Paznyak’s address to the participants of the holiday was read out.

“Don’t sign your social media accounts in Russian or Polish, sign them in Belarusian. Decide who you are. We are Belarusians. Remember your Belarusian name. Remember your language. Remember your culture. My story. Live by it. And win this victory over mankurt. Even greater victories will await us,” Priest Vyachaslau Barok began the event with an introductory speech.

A small bright column under white-red-white flags, accompanied by the sounds of bagpipes and drums, passed from Jozef Pilsudski Square to Zamkowa Square with a stop at the monument to Adam Mickiewicz. People carried posters and portraits of Belarusian political prisoners who died in prisons.

The event was organized by the Belarusian Christian Democrats Party.

In turn, in Bialystok, at the city Orthodox cemetery, local historian Aliaksei Trubkin conducted a tour of Belarusian places of memory. This is not the first time such an excursion has taken place. Representatives of the diaspora visited the graves of Belarusian figures.

“Almost every year we visit Belarusian burials in the Orthodox cemetery, where there are most of them. We light candles, I tell you about the people who are known for what. Belarusians should be reminded of those who promoted Belarusianism in Bialystok and Bialystochyna at different times. Belarusians who cannot visit the graves of relatives can come here,” says Aliaksei Trubkin.

Belarusians visited the graves of Lidia Lukaszyk, Sergiusz and Leon Bogusz, Konstanty Kisly, Bazyl Jurowiec, Mikolai Hajduk, Konstanty Sidorewicz, Wiktor Rudczik, Vyacheslav Bogdanowicz, Mikolaj Czarniecki and Jurka Geniusz.
