The night of October 29-30, 1937 is a tragic date in the Belarusian history of the 20th century. At that time, more than 130 Belarusian cultural, literary, scientific, and political figures were shot in Minsk.
22 writers were shot, among them poets Mikhail Kamysh, Valery Marakou, Ales Dudar, Yurka Liavonny, Todar Klyashtorny, Siarhei Murzo, Zyama Pivavarov, Yuli Taubin, Anatol Volny, Izi Harik. Belarusians traditionally honor their memory on this day. Earlier, the events were held in Belarus. So, since 2017, a group of activists who protected the Kurapaty security zone from the construction of a business center began to organize a “Night of Shot Poets” in the tract on October 29 with readings of their poems and performances. In 2017, producer Siarhei Budkin published a music album “(Not)shot” based on poems by shot authors.
Today, the events will be held in Warsaw, Gdansk, Krakow, Bialystok and other Polish cities. As well as in Vilnius, Prague, New York, Batumi and other cities.
