On the 43rd anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland, representatives of local authorities in Bialystok laid flowers at the monument to Priest Jerzy Popieluszko.
“We lay flowers and candles in important places, first of all near the monument to Jerzy Popieluszko, a person who dedicated her life for the freedom of Poland. I would like to express my gratitude to those people who had the courage to fight for freedom at that time/ Thanks to them, my family and I can live in a free Poland. It was extraordinary bravery,” said Marshal of Podlaskie voivodeship Lukasz Prokorym.
“This date is very important in the history of modern Poland. For me personally, since I was in Warsaw that day. This story is also tragic, as many people died, were killed because of the communist government,” said Bogdan Dyjuk, a member of the Marshal’s Council of Podlaskie voivodeship, a participant in the commemorative celebrations on the 43rd anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland.
Accordingly, on the 18th, a mass for the Motherland was held in the Church of St. Roch in Bialystok, and after it the participants laid flowers at the memorial plaque on Lipowa Street.
