On March 14, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Ukrainian Volunteer, a day honoring those who have defended the country since 2014, fighting against the Russian occupiers. The country remembers those who stood up for Ukraine, including Belarusians.
Andrei Kushniarou, a member of the Coordinating Council and chairman of the Association of Belarusian Veterans in Ukraine, addressed his colleagues:
– If a person does not defend his motherland, then he will not protect his family either. Those people who came, those people who are fighting, are the best people in the Belarusian community. I would like to appeal to future volunteers, to those people who are thinking: to go or not to go? We really need help here. No need to wait for the war to come to the country where you are now. Come to us, we will be glad to see everyone, thank you to everyone who has already arrived. Glory to Ukraine! And Long Live Belarus!
To date, it is known that more than 80 Belarusians died fighting in the ranks of volunteer formations for Ukraine.
Today, Belarusians, like all foreign defenders of Ukraine, have received a steel cross “For our freedom and yours.”
