How do people who have experienced torture or ill-treatment by the security forces in Belarus perceive justice after 2020? This was analyzed by representatives of the Viasna Human Rights Center and researchers from the International Committee for the Investigation of Torture in Belarus.
Human rights activists studied the testimony of almost 600 Belarusians who were supposed to leave the country. The report on the results of the study was presented on December 9.
The respondents called Aliaksandr Lukashenka the most often guilty of violence during the 2020 post-election protests in Belarus (82% of respondents). The courts, the generals of the power unit, the Investigative Committee, employees of isolators and colonies, and so on were also called guilty.
11% of respondents blamed “everyone who voted for Lukashenka” for the violence in Belarus, and another 6% consider all Belarusians responsible for it in general.
