Poland may resume the operation of the border checkpoint “Bobrowniki” on the border with Belarus, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
“We have to analyze whether it is possible to unblock one crossing,” Tusk said at a rally in Bialystok. “I will not make such a decision if the military and border guards have an unequivocally negative opinion that this could have a negative, large-scale impact on our security.”
According to him, the opening of “Bobrowniki” could unlock a significant part of Polish small and medium-sized businesses associated with direct trade between Belarusians and Poles.
The head of the Polish government noted that a decision could be made within a few days. Tusk stressed that he is far from making gestures towards the Belarusian regime, so the possible opening of the border does not need to be explained in this way. “Isolate the regime, open up to people,” he said.
On February 8, 2023, the Grodna Regional Court sentenced one of the leaders of the Polish community in Belarus, Andrzej Poczobut, to eight years in prison in a high-security colony.
After that, on February 10, 2023, Poland indefinitely blocked the border crossing “Bobrowniki”.
