17 thousand military personnel are planned to be involved in the large-scale operation “Safety Podlasie”, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said. The operation on the border with Belarus starts on August 1.
Poland also positively assessed the creation of a buffer zone on the eastern border. “The number of attempts to illegally cross the border has halved,” said Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense Cesary Tomczyk.
“The truth is that we have left “holes” in the border, which migrants can step over in 15 seconds. There is a lack of coordination between the various services. There is not enough special ammunition for soldiers. And we are paying attention to these problems. The Poles are investing great efforts in modernizing the Polish army. The country spends a lot of money to make it safer,” Tomczyk said.
